Sean and I went to long Island to get my camping stuff this weekend. We traveled to three local ambulance squads to inquire about volunteering this summer or when i’m at home. I was most excited to visit Glen Cove’s squad house just because they had the most amount of calls but I was sadly disappointed. The Chief seemed incapable to answer questions that Sean or I asked such as do you have an in house crew and what are your requirements? He didn’t seem intelligent and seemed annoyed that we were asking questions. Main question we couldn’t figure out: if Glen Cove receives 3,000 calls a year and has 2 paid crews on during the day and 1 paid crew on at night with 60 members and three ambulances…this evens out to about 8.2 calls a day. How do they cover their area? anywho, Sea Cliff Fire Medic was the most friendly and knowledgable. Even though they only have 12-20 members, 2 medics, 1 ambulance, 0 fly cars, 300 calls per year and i live one town over. They were stoked to see us friendly and thrilled about us being EMTs already. I will deffintely put an application in.
We also visted another fire departments with EMS service, but its not worth mentioning. I’m really disspointed with glen coves EMS just incase if my parents get hurt or anyone i love.
